Branford Invitational - Light On The Wind, Heavy On The Rum
The 45th annual Branford Yacht Club Invitational was true to form again this year – light air and an outstanding Pusser's-powered party. Competitors drifted around for about an hour and a quarter waiting for the light southerly to organize itself.
The race committee did a great job with a meager 0 – 5 kts getting the racers around a short windward leeward circuit. Perennial favorites Golden Rule, Wolverine, and Secret took class honors in racing divisions 3,4, and 5 respectively. Wolverine was howling in the light stuff with a 15 minute corrected delta from 2cnd place Wasabi. Spirit and Slingshot overcame the frustrating downwind legs to take the cruising classes.
The real race began into the harbor as the crews knew Pusser's Painkillers were awaiting - and good rum drinks were needed after a frustrating day on the water. The party was exceptional again this year with terrific food, grog supplied by Pusser's, and enthusiastic participation from the many BYC volunteers. Fireworks at the adjacent Town Beach entertained the crews into the evening.
