Navy Days 06
The Navy's principal public showpiece event of the year, Navy Days, was held August 26-28 in the Devonport Naval Base, England - and Pusser's was there to "Splice the Main Brace!"
Thirteen Royal Naval vessels, plus an RFA Auxiliary took part including HMS Albion, Cumberland, Northumberland, Cornwall, Roebuck, Exeter, Southampton, Atherstone and Pembroke. Submarines Torbay, Spartan and Devonport's permanent visitor attraction HMS Courageous were also open for visitors. Please note that entry to submarines will be by ticket only.
The core of the show was dynamic 40-minute display featuring the combined forces of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Fleet Air Arm and RAF.
There was also a daily 90-minute air display featuring the (very loud) Eurofighter Typhoon, Merlin helicopters, Hawks, the Blue Eagles, the Royal Navy Historic Flight, the Black Cats, Harrier GR7 and an air/sea rescue demonstration by a Sea King helicopter.
Four foreign warships from the Russian, French, Dutch and German navies also took part: RFN Admiral Chabanenko, FS Cormoran, HNLMS De Zeven Provincien and FGS Hessen. The tall ship Tenacious was also alongside.
This year the theme of Navy Days was 'Future Navy' featuring a marquee that had and displays about the planned future aircraft carriers HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Type 45 destroyer and the F35 Joint Combat Aircraft.
