Chronicles of the Painkiller Happy Hours and Rendezvous

Dave Dudgeon from Latitudes & Attitudes Magazine and TV recently teamed up with Pussers Rum for two unforgettable Latitudes & Attitudes Great Lakes Parties.

The first event was held in the beautiful Apostle Islands of Lake Superior in June of 2006 where the group embarked on a cruising exploration of this wilderness chain of islands.

"Each evening we celebrated the breathtaking beauty of a new anchorage with a Pussers Painkiller Happy Hour. We would gather on one of the boats in the flotilla and enjoy the great taste of painkillers as we shared stories and many laughs with friends new and old," said Dave. "It is easy to see why the Apostle Islands is considered one of the top ten cruising grounds in the world."

During these four days of sailing and camaraderie, they filmed for the thrd season of Latitudes & Attitudes TV. "There is so much to see and do that we only scratched the surface of this northern archipelago," continued Dave. "We visited light houses, walked sandy beaches and marveled at this untamed wilderness. At one island we witnessed a deer follow a man strolling down the beach. At others, we would see fresh bear tracks left in the sand."

On the return to homeport, it was time to get busy setting up for the Latitudes & Attitudes Cruisers Bash. Superior Charters and Pikes Bay Marina hosted the event. It was a true Lats & Atts style party with food, beer, the tropical sounds of Eric Stone and of course the great taste of Pussers Rum. Best of all, it was free to all who attended.

You can catch all the fun by checking out the 3rd season of the Latitudes & Attitudes TV show.

The Apostle Islands are truly a fresh water paradise as well as one of the most magnificent cruising grounds in the world. Delve into the small town charm of Bayfield Wisconsin and the rich maritime history this area has to offer.

The second Pussers event was a repeat of the very popular Painkiller Rendezvous. They anchored off the south end of Powers Island in the beautiful clear water of the Grand Traverse Bay in northern Michigan. From 1-5pm Friday August 11, they served up Pussers Painkillers and again enjoyed the friendship and tranquil beauty of another fresh water paradise. This flotilla party was a prelude to the Saturday Latitudes & Attitudes Cruisers Bash featuring Eric Stone and sponsored by the Grand Traverse Yacht Club.

Did you know? In earlier years on British ships, the "scuttled butt" was an open (scuttled) fresh-water cask (or butt) on ship decks from which issues of the daily tot of grog were served. As a gathering point to exchange daily rumors, the term "scuttlebutt" took on the meaning of gossip aboard ship.
